ORLANDO, Fla. — Tropical Depression 3 strengthened to a Tropical Storm late Tuesday morning. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph as it moves to the southwest at about 3 mph.
Air Force Reserve Unit Hurricane Hunter aircraft flew the system in the morning and it measures the winds and recorded its strengthening. Gusts are higher than the 40 mph.

The system will meander over the extreme southwestern Gulf of Mexico through this week. By Saturday, the official trajectory shows that the storm will be taking a turn to the north and travel over the Central part of the Gulf of Mexico.

States adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico should monitor this system closely.
In Florida, we will have to monitor this system once it starts to turn northward. Plenty of moisture could arrive from Cristobal to Florida. There is still plenty of time to monitor the evolution of the tropical storm.
