BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The driver of a semitruck died in a fiery crash that shut down a portion of the north lanes of Interstate 95 in Brevard County for several hours, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
The crash was reported around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near Micco Road in Sebastian.
The crash involved a tanker hauling hydrogen peroxide and Hyundai Sante De, troopers said.
The tanker caught fire after the crash and the driver died at the scene, troopers said.
According to a FHP report, the tire tread separated on the semitruck and the driver lost control.
Robert Racicot, 79, and Celina Ruel, 61, both of Quebec, Canada, were hospitalized with serious injuries.
The driver of the semitruck has not been identified.
North Interstate 95 was shut down at mile marker 156 and south Interstate 95 was shut down at mile maker 173.
