NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — The search is on for a hit-and-run driver who killed a man early Friday morning, according to New Smyrna Beach police.
Officers said Port Charlotte resident Timothy Calabrese, 43, was found dead around 1:10 a.m. in the median of U.S. 1 (North Dixie Freeway), not far from Sleepy Hollow Road.
A passerby noticed his body and pulled over to give assistance, but he had already succumbed to his injuries, officers said.

Due to vehicle fragments found at the crash scene, police believe Calabrese may have been struck by a dark blue 1999-2002 Chevy Silverado or Tahoe.
The vehicle would likely have front-end damage due to the impact, officers said.
