ORLANDO, Fla. — A major road closure on I-4 in downtown Orlando will begin Friday night as part of the I-4 Ultimate Project.
The east lanes of I-4 at State Road 408 will be shut down for bridge work from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
Drivers will have to exit at South Street, then take Garland Avenue to re-enter east I-4 at the ramp after the Amelia Street intersection, officials said.
"This is the first of what will be a handful of closures in the downtown area. We are closing just eastbound I-4. We are going to do the work over top the eastbound lanes,” I-4 representative Dave Parks said.
The SR-408 east exit ramp to eastbound I-4 will be closed during the same hours.
Officials said drivers should note that the Colonial Drive (State Road 50) east onramp to I-4 will also be closed and is not a recommended alternative.
“We don’t have any major events going on in the downtown area, so it’s a good time in terms od busy travel to be able to get the work done,” Parks said.
