MAITLAND, Fla. — Heavy rains caused flooding Tuesday morning on South Orlando Avenue near Monroe Avenue in Maitland.
Police closed the road beneath the Reverend Kenneth C. Crossman Bridge near the Winter Park-Maitland city limits because of the pooled rainwater.

The road was reopened late Tuesday morning. The closure of the southbound lanes caused a 2-mile backup.
A storm water drain was blocked because of a nearby construction site, a Florida Department of Transportation spokesman said.
Pumps were installed, but they couldn't handle the amount of rainfall, officials said.
In the meantime, the city of Maitland has installed another drainage pump.
