LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Joel Berry scored 21 points to lead Orlando Lake Highland Prep to a 67-50 victory over Boca Raton Saint Andrew's on Thursday in the boys Class 4A state basketball championship game.
Berry, who has committed to North Carolina, did not have his best shooting game, going 6 for 16 from the floor. But he hit key free throws down the stretch to keep Saint Andrew's from getting any closer than 13 points in the second half.
Lake Highland Prep (24-5) received major contributions from Denzel Davis (16 points) and B.J. Simpson (15 points) to take a commanding 40-25 halftime lead.
Saint Andrew's (24-4) was often its own worst enemy as the Scots committed 21 turnovers. They also struggled getting to the free throw line, only taking five shots from the charity stripe compared to 25 for the Highlanders. Jovan Lawson led Saint Andrew's with 19 points and six rebounds.
