- Check for security cameras. If the incident happened in a parking lot or garage under video surveillance, the accident could have been recorded.
- Report the accident to the authorities. Local police will record the accident and help you with follow-up steps. Most insurance companies will require that you have an accident report filled out by the police to report a claim.
- Write down a description of the scene as well as the time, date and place that it occurred. Take photographs of your vehicle, the damages and the scene in its entirety.
