ATLANTA — Rapper Young Thug is accused of conducting a hand-to-hand drug deal during jury selection in a Georgia courtroom for the Grammy Award-winning artist’s gang conspiracy trial, prosecutors said.
In a motion filed Thursday, Fulton County prosecutors allege that Kahlieff Adams, one of Young Thug’s 13 co-defendants at the trial in Atlanta, approached the musician during a Wednesday hearing and allegedly slid something into his hand, WSB-TV reported. The exchange was caught by a courtroom surveillance camera, according to Rolling Stone.
A deputy spotted the transaction and confiscated what authorities later said was a Percocet pill, WSB reported. The motion filed Thursday stated that deputies also found Adams in possession of marijuana, tobacco and other contraband wrapped in plastic and food seasoning.
Defense attorney Keith Adams told us Young Thug has done nothing wrong, was passed something but didn’t know what it was, it was immediately turned over to deputy. Prosecution motion gives a different perspective. Like working an ongoing story with my buddy M. Seiden https://t.co/nN7u9bMDg3

According to WSB, Young Thug, 31, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, was arrested May 9, 2022, at his home in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. He was booked in the Fulton County Jail on charges of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and participating in criminal street gang activity, the news outlet reported.
Keith Adams, one of Williams’ defense attorneys, said his client had nothing to do with the alleged transaction, WSB reported.
“His side is the truth. The reality is Mr. Williams had nothing to do with what went on in the courtroom on yesterday,” Adams said. “One of the codefendants on his way to the restroom attempted to pass something to Mr. Williams who immediately turned it over to the deputy.”
Brian Steel, another one of Williams’ attorneys, said his client did not know Adams.
“The state’s motion is replete with factual inaccuracies, embellishments, and improper attempts to make Mr. Williams responsible for someone else’s actions,” Steel told Rolling Stone. “The end result of an investigation into yesterday’s incident was that Mr. Williams was cleared of any wrongdoing.”
“The responsible parties were charged and appeared in court for first appearances this morning.”
Teombre Calland, an attorney representing Kahlieff Adams, released a statement via message, WSB reported.
“On behalf of Mr. Adams, these allegations are simply that: mere statements made by the state in an effort to thwart the lengthiness of the jury selection process,” Calland wrote. “Mr. Adams adamantly maintains his innocence and looks forward to the conclusion of this trial.”
Williams is facing nine charges, including the top count of racketeering conspiracy, according to online court records.
