Woman missing 3 weeks found naked in Florida storm drain

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A South Florida woman reported missing three weeks ago is recovering at home after first responders rescued her Tuesday from a Delray Beach storm drain.

“This was by far one of the most bizarre incidents that our officers have responded to,” Delray Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Ted White told WPLG.

The woman, identified by police as 43-year-old Lyndsey Jane Kennedy, was reportedly found naked in the storm drain after a passerby heard her cries for help, WPTV reported.

According to WPLG, Kennedy was eight feet below the roadway when she was rescued.

Meanwhile, WPTV reported that she was extracted from the structure and transported – conscious and communicating with firefighters – to Delray Beach Medical Center where she was treated for dehydration, Delray Beach Fire Rescue spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.

Kennedy told police that she went for a swim on March 3 in a canal near her boyfriend’s apartment about three miles from where she was found. While swimming, however, she encountered a doorway in the canal’s shallow water, which she entered and discovered a tunnel. She told authorities that she had been wandering lost in a series of underground tunnels the entire time, before spotting light on Tuesday, WPTV reported.

“She mentioned she had been in the storm drain for weeks. We from the police department standpoint find it very hard to believe that she spent that amount of time down there. You need food and water, and so some things don’t add up,” Delray Beach Police Department spokesman Ted White told the TV station.

According to the police report, Kennedy’s mother told investigators that her daughter has a history of mental illness, abuses illegal narcotics regularly and has a history of “making bad decisions when she is high on drugs.”

Kennedy’s boyfriend had reported her missing the day she disappeared, WPLG reported.
