JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A 20-year-old Colorado woman was killed by a large rock after it was thrown at her car and crashed through her windshield, authorities said.
The woman was later identified as Alexa Bartell, according to KKTV.
“In the moments before she was killed, Alexa was on her phone talking to a friend when the phone went silent. Alexa’s friend tracked her phone and drove to the location on Indiana Street,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in the news release. The friend found Bartell deceased inside her car.
Investigators believe that Bartell’s death was connected to a crime spree overnight possibly involving a pickup truck or SUV, KKTV reported.
Four other incidents of rocks being thrown at cars were reported starting at 10 p.m. through just before 12:30 a.m. the following day. Aside from Bartell’s death, two drivers had minor injuries and the other two were not injured, KKTV reported.
Authorities have asked for help identifying a suspect or suspects. Police believe there may be more victims.
