According to The Associated Press, police arrested Kevi Ellis, 26, on homicide and attempted homicide charges Saturday after the Gainesville Police Department responded to a reported shooting at a Northeast 17th Drive home. When officers arrived, Ellis, who was armed, “threw his firearm to the side and surrendered on sight,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

Officers then discovered the bodies of the woman and the baby, who was just 3 months old, according to the post. Both victims had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

“A third victim, a nearby neighbor, was shot at, but not struck,” the post read. “Two other children (ages 3 and 5) were found hiding inside the house underneath a bed.”

Police have not publicly released the victims’ identities or a possible motive in the case, the AP reported. It was not immediately known whether the suspect knew the victims, according to the news agency.
