Who is Senator-elect Jon Ossoff? 5 things to know

Jon Ossoff has been declared the winner of his Senate race in Georgia. Now, many people may be wondering “Who is Jon Ossoff?”

In the meantime, here are five things you should know about Ossoff.

1. Ossoff is a native of Georgia. Both he and his wife, Alisha Kramer, grew up in Atlanta.

2. Ossoff, according to his official biography, is an investigative journalist who “exposed sexual slavery of women and girls by ISIS, crooked judges, foreign officials who steal U.S.-funded food and medical aid, contract killers, human traffickers, war crimes and bribery.”

3. He has been the CEO of Insight TWI since 2013. The media company was founded in 1991 under the name Insight News Television by the BBC’s Ron McCullagh. The company coproduced 2000′s “Cry Freetown,” an Emmy-winning documentary focusing on Sierra Leone’s civil war.

4. Ossoff earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He also has a Master of Science from the London School of Economics.

He worked as a national security aide for Rep. Hank Johnson, representing Georgia’s 4th District, focusing on defense, foreign affairs, intelligence and economic policy.

5. Ossoff ran for Congress to represent Georgia’s 6th District in 2017 at the age of 29. Ossoff lost the race by 3% but had what his campaign called “the strongest Democratic Special Election turnout in over a decade.”
