AMARILLO, Texas — Officials in a west Texas town are scratching their heads after a security camera captured an unusual image outside the Amarillo Zoo.
City officials have dubbed the object an “Unidentified Amarillo Object” after the image showed up on a surveillance camera at the zoo at about 1:25 a.m. CDT on May 21, according to a news release.
“Was it a person with a strange hat who likes to walk at night? A large coyote on its hind legs? A Chupacabra? It is a mystery -- for Amarillo to help solve,” the release stated.
“We’d love to hear feedback from the community on what they think it might be,” Michael Kashuba, Amarillo’s director of parks and recreation, told KFDA-TV. “It’s a very unique picture, and we’re excited to see what the community thinks. The photo is absolutely real.”
The city is encouraging the public to submit ideas for what the figure could be.
“We just want to let the Amarillo community have some fun with this,” Kashuba said in a statement. “It is important to note that this entity was outside the Amarillo Zoo. There were no signs of attempted entry into the zoo. No animals or individuals were harmed. There were no signs of criminal activity or vandalism.
