Musk was declared the world’s richest man in October when he had an estimated net worth of $271.3 billion at the time, according to Forbes. Most of his wealth comes from Tesla and SpaceX, the rocket company he founded in 2002.
But while he is the richest person in the world, Musk lives a minimalistic life of sorts, by not owning a home.
Time, in its selection of Musk, called him “a madcap hybrid of Thomas Edison, P.T. Barnum, Andrew Carnegie and “Watchmen’s” Doctor Manhattan, the brooding, blue-skinned man-god who invents electric cars and moves to Mars.”
He has his sights set past terra firma, with his SpaceX company winning an exclusive contract to take U.S. astronauts back to the moon for the first time since 1972, Time reported.
Back on solid ground, he’s also dominating the electric car market with Tesla counting for two-thirds of electric vehicles sold and Hertz adding 100,000 Teslas to its fleet.
