SAN ANTONIO — A man accused of breaking into a San Antonio home early Sunday was shot by the homeowner and later attempted to elude authorities by bolting, briefly, from an emergency vehicle.
The incident began at a West Side home just after 1:30 a.m. local time, KSAT-TV reported.
According to police, the homeowner, described only as a man in his 50s, shot the suspect twice, the TV station reported.
Police quickly apprehended a man in his 40s with a gunshot wound to the right thigh and elbow, but the suspect kicked open the door of the ambulance in which he was being treated and fled, WOAI-TV reported.
The suspect was quickly re-apprehended, and medical personnel determined that he also suffered cuts from jumping over a barbed-wire fence, KSAT reported.
According to WOAI, the homeowner told police that he found the suspect in his yard - attempting to break in to the residence - and warned the would-be burglar that he would shoot him. The homeowner did not fire, however, until the suspect charged toward the home’s back door.
The suspect is listed in stable condition at an area hospital, and no other injuries were reported.
