WATFORD CITY, N.D. — When a teen told his father he didn’t have anyone he wanted to ask to his prom, his father came up with an idea — take great-grandma.

Dakota Wollan took the suggestion and ran with it, complete with a promposal that connected the two generations.

“I have this old truck she gave me, it’s a 1985 Ford she handed down to me and I got it running again. So, I took that truck and made a sign,” Wollan told KFYR.

His sign read, “Can I take you to prom in this old truck?”

Wollan said he was nervous when he asked Madeline Miller on the date. Miller was a bit perplexed.

“I was just wondering why he would want a 92-year-old going to prom with him when there are so many young girls in the school,” Miller said.

Miller didn’t go to a prom when she was back in high school. She actually dropped out after a year and a half to help her family when her father got sick. She was the second-oldest of 14 brothers and sisters, The McKenzie County Farmer reported.

The unusual couple was in the spotlight at the Watford City High School dance.

“Walking beside my great-grandson, listening to this music as we walked and people clapping and hollering,” Miller remembered about the night.

Wollan and Miller danced the first dance, then Wollan took his great-grandma home, KFYR reported.
