The remains of a man who went missing earlier this month in Argentina appear to have been found inside a shark that was caught by local fishermen, according to The Associated Press.

The man, Diego Barria, 32, was last seen riding an all-terrain vehicle near the coast in the southern Chubut province.

His vehicle was found wrecked on a beach on Feb. 20 with a damaged helmet and sunglasses that were reported to have been Barria’s next to it.

Two men who were fishing on Sunday near the spot where the ATV was found reported that they had caught three school sharks close to the shore and that when they were cleaning them, they found human remains inside of one of them.

The school shark in which the remains were found was about 5 feet long.

Barria’s family identified him through a tattoo on an arm that was visible in the remains, Daniela Millatruz, the law enforcement officer who was in charge of the search, told local news media.

“We presume Diego had an accident,” Millatruz said, “and we’re investigating if there was a vehicle involved.”

Authorities suspect Barria may have been dazed and walked into the water or was knocked unconscious and dragged out to sea by the tide, The Independent reported.

Cristian Ansaldo, head of the police department in Comodoro Rivadavia, noted there had been a strong tidal surge the weekend when Barria disappeared, the AP reported.
