QUEENS, N.Y. — A Brooklyn, New York, man is facing more than a dozen charges stemming from an Aug. 10 hit-and-run in Queens that left a trio of pedestrians, including a toddler, wounded.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Wednesday that Tyshawn Baldwin, 28, has been charged with assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing of police officers and other crimes in connection with the hit-and-run collision that injured three pedestrians, including a mother and toddler inside a stroller.
According to WPIX, the driver, since identified as Baldwin, was fleeing a traffic stop in Ridgewood at around 5:10 p.m. EDT when he struck a 2-year-old girl, a 28-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man.
The girl suffered a wrist injury, while the woman suffered a knee injury, and the man suffered a leg injury, the TV station reported.
According to a statement issued by Katz’ office, Baldwin had been stopped initially for parking a Dodge Durango at an intersection as well as having a loud exhaust and dark tinted windows, all while driving with a suspended license.
“The complete disregard for public safety in this case is shameful. As alleged, the defendant was operating a vehicle with a suspended license when he struck and injured three pedestrians, including a young child – all while callously fleeing a traffic stop,” Katz stated, adding, “Driving is a privilege, and every single person who gets behind the wheel of a car bears an individual responsibility to drive safely. The defendant now faces very serious charges.”
According to the statement, the 17-count complaint against Baldwin charges him with assault in the first and second degrees, reckless endangerment in the first and second degrees, unlawful fleeing a police officer, obstructing governmental administration, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, parking within an intersection and driving by unlicensed operator.
