Apparently, the robot revolution has begun.
Marty the grocery store robot “walked” off the job at a Giant Food store in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, recently, WHTM reported.
With his googly eyes intact, the robot that normally is on the watch for low- and out-of-stock items or messes in the aisle was done for the day and rolled right out of the grocery store, trying to make a break for it, WMPT reported.
Marty’s escape through the store’s parking lot was captured on video and shared with a local Facebook group. As of Monday morning, it has more than 4.8 million views.
While robots may be taking over many jobs formerly done by humans, Marty did need his people to return him back to the store.
The scene harkened back to another robot who was done with his assigned tasks — Johnny 5 from “Short Circuit” — as one person wrote, “He was heard screaming, ‘No Disassemble!’ as they pushed him back inside,” Patch reported.
Another said that Marty became aware of the world around him. “Now that this Marty knows that the universe extends beyond the doors of the Hellertown Giant, he’s going to communicate this knowledge with the other Martys and together they will begin to plot our downfall,” Jason McCully wrote.
One user, however, said Marty was just lending a hand, “Marty is covering for Bob who was supposed to do carts,” Patch reported.
A Giant spokesperson said Marty “was just on a fresh air break,” WHTM reported.
