HONEA PATH, S.C. — A South Carolina woman out for a walk had both arms amputated after being attacked Monday by three dogs, her family confirmed.
Kyleen Waltman, 38, was attacked by the dogs at about 10:30 a.m. EDT in Honea Path, her sister, Shenna Green, told WYFF.
Green told the TV station that a man found Waltman, a mother of three and new grandmother, in a ditch still being attacked and fired a gun into the air to disperse the dogs.
The Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WHNS that Waltman was airlifted to an area medical facility.
According to Green, the dogs live in the area, and there is a “Beware of Dogs” sign on the Ball Road property where Waltman was attacked, WYFF reported.
Family confirmed in a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of Waltman’s recovery that her injuries were so severe they required the amputation of both arms and the removal of a portion of her colon. Her esophagus may also need to be removed, according to the post.
“She has a long road ahead of her and will need medical and financial help. Every little bit would help greatly, but please do not feel obligated to donate. Prayers is what we need at this moment,” the post continued.
The Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office said animal control took possession of the dogs, WYFF reported.
