NASSAU, Bahamas — A Pennsylvania woman is dead after a shark attacked her during a snorkeling excursion in the Bahamas, officials said.
According to The Associated Press and WPVI-TV, the incident occurred about 2 p.m. Tuesday near Green Cay off Rose Island. The 58-year-old tourist was snorkeling with relatives when a bull shark bit her, Royal Bahamas police said. She later died at a nearby hospital, officials said.
Although the woman was a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas ship, the attack occurred during “an independent shore excursion,” the cruise line said in a statement obtained by the news outlets. The company added that it “is providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones.”
No one else was hurt in the attack, according to WPVI.
