SEATTLE — Amazon’s annual Prime Day sale has been rescheduled from July to September, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The company struggled to fulfill a surge in demand because of the coronavirus, and it had put a strain on its warehouses, which caused Amazon to move the event.

The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Amazon is working to return to pre-pandemic business operations and allowing unlimited shipments of nonessential goods to warehouses.

This will allow Amazon to lay the groundwork for shipments of a wider variety of products, process orders more quickly and create room for more inventory, according to the report.

The Journal report also noted that, even though Amazon moves to return to wider product selection and speedier deliveries, the company may not be able to reach the fast shipping times.
