WASHINGTON — More than 1 million pressure washer spray guns sold at Lowe’s and by Amazon have been recalled due to a faulty connector.
According to a news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Greenworks and Powerworks brand pressure washer spray guns were recalled because the spray gun connector may break and injure the user.
The distributor of the spray guns, Hongkong Sun Rise Trading Ltd., of China, “has received 15 reports of the pressure washer spray gun connector breaking,” the CPSC stated in its release. The hose and/or parts of the connector became dislodged when under pressure during use, according to the agency.
The breakage resulted in 13 reports of injuries, including seven that required medical treatment for “post-concussion, broken bones and/or injuries to the eyes and mouth,” the commission said.
The spray guns were sold nationally a Lowe’s stores and online at Lowes.com, Amazon.com, and other online retailers from January 2017 through February 2021, the CPSC said in its release. The plastic gun accessory kit had a retail price of about $40 and the pressure washers were sold for between $100 and $180, the agency said.
The products affected by the release:
- Greenworks brand 2000 PSI plastic pressure washer spray gun included in the Greenworks brand 2000 PSI Plastic Gun Accessory kit, Greenworks brand Pressure Washer models ranging from 1500-1800 psi (pounds per square inch), and certain Powerworks brand Pressure Washer models ranging from 1700 to 1800 psi.
- The model number is printed on the back of the pressure washer unit, near the top. The brand, Greenworks or Powerworks, appears on the side of the pressure washer spray gun. When the spray gun is removed from the hose, the interior connector is made of black plastic, not metal, on recalled units.
