The makers of Cottonelle have recalled two varieties of flushable wipes due to possible bacterial contamination.
Kimberly-Clark is recalling specific lots of Cottonelle wet wipes sold nationwide because they could be contaminated with bacteria that can cause infections in people, the household goods maker said in a prepared statement.
According to a company statement, the affected products include Cottonelle Flushable Wipes and Cottonelle GentlePlus Flushable Wipes, manufactured between Feb. 7, 2020, and Sept. 14, 2020, and could contain the bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae.
“At this time there is a low rate of non-serious complaints, such as irritation and minor infection, reported for the affected wipes,” Kimberly-Clark stated, clarifying, “Individuals who have a weakened immune system, suffer from a serious pre-existing condition, have been treated surgically or belong to another sensitive group of persons are at particular risk of infection.”
