Continental Tire and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced the recall of nearly 3,000 tires because they pose a hazard.
The tires in question were overcured and could develop a break in the sidewall, the NHTSA said.
If the sidewalk ruptures, the tire could experience sudden air loss and/or tread separation, increasing a chance of a crash.
The recall affects only specific tires from the models listed below:
- 4x4 Contact, size 255/55R19 111V XL
- PureContact LS, size 215/60R16 95V
- TerrainContact H/T, size 255/55R20 107H
Owners will be contacted by Continental Tire by mail after Jan. 12. Owners can also call Contact Tire’s customer service at 1-888-799-2168 if they have any questions.
The tires will be replaced for free, according to the NHTSA.
