Kevin Harlan, who called the Super Bowl for the ninth straight year on Westwood One radio, delivered another memorable call when a fan ran onto the field late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.
Update: 11:55 a.m., Feb. 8: The man has been identified as Yuri Andrade, 31, from Boca Raton, Florida. He was charged with trespassing and posted a $500 cash bond before being released Monday morning, WFLA reported.
Original report: The Kansas City Chiefs were facing second down-and 20 at the Tampa Bay 38 with 5:03 to play in Super Bowl LV when the fan ran onto the turf at Raymond James Stadium.
CBS cut away from the telecast as field security members apprehended the man. It wasn’t easy, though. The fan gave the security detail a run for its money, prompting television broadcaster Jim Nantz to observe that the fan “had one of the great runs of the night,” Sports Illustrated reported.
But it allowed Harlan to make a memorable call. That was no surprise since he has spent 30 years broadcasting games for the Chiefs, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and NFL games, USA Today reported.
“Someone has run on the field. Some guy with a bra,” Harlan said. “And now, he’s not being chased. He’s running down the middle .. the 40 ... arms in the air in a victory salute.”
“He’s being chased to the 30. He breaks a tackle from a security guard,” Harlan said. “The 20, down the middle, the 10, the 5, he slides at the 1 and they converge on him at the goal line.
“Pull up your pants, take off the bra, and be a man,” Harlan said.
Radio analyst Kurt Warner had some advice for the fan.
“Kevin, if you’re gonna run that far, get into the end zone,” the Hall of Famer, who played in three Super Bowls, told Harlan. “Don’t slide at the 1, you’ve gotta score once you get onto the field.
