HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A Florida woman is facing child abuse charges, after police said she used a dog cage as a punishment for her child.
A worker with Florida’s Department of Children and Families called police to report the alleged abuse, WTVJ reported.
Adriana Alvarado Gutierrez allegedly told the DCF worker that she locked her son in the cage because he was aggressive toward her and himself, WFOR reported. The boy allegedly had bruises on his back and arms, and police said she showed them bruises she said she got from her son kicking her.
Police at the scene said Gutierrez admitted to locking her son in the cage twice over the previous weekend, WTVJ reported. The child’s father told police he did not agree with the punishment.
The child was previously diagnosed with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder and takes medication, WFOR reported.
