Baltimore shooting: Suspects sought after 2 killed, 28 injured at block party

BALTIMORE — At least two people were killed and 28 others were injured during a mass shooting at a Baltimore block party early Sunday, authorities said.

$28,000 reward offered for information

Update 1:40 p.m. EDT July 3: Officials are offering a $28,000 reward for people who share information that leads to an arrest and charges in the deaths of two people at a block party in Baltimore.

“I strongly urge anyone with any information to help us bring these individuals to justice,” acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley said Monday at a news conference.

Police said 15 of the people injured are between the ages of 13 and 17. The 13 other victims are between the ages of 18 and 32, Worley said.

Police identify slain victims

Update 11:53 p.m. EDT July 2: Police identified the two people who died as the result of Saturday’s mass shooting at a block party.

Aaliyah Gonzalez, 18, died at the scene, WMAR-TV reported. Kylis Fagbemi, 20, was taken to an area hospital and later died, according to the television station.

Police updated the number of injured minors from 14 to 15, WJZ-TV reported. That number included four 17-year-olds, five 16-year-olds, three 15-year-olds, a 14-year-old and two 13-year-olds, according to the television station.

Update 6:11 p.m. EDT July 2: Baltimore police said that of the 28 people injured, 14 were minors, WJZ-TV reported.

“We will not stop until we find those cowards who decided to just shoot dozens of people, causing two people to lose their lives,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said during a news conference. “And we’re going to be here until we find them, until we hold them accountable until they are held accountable for the actions they took because we cannot rest until they do so.

“Again our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community and city.”

Victims between 13 and 32 years old, police say

Update 3:37 p.m. EDT July 2: In a news conference Sunday afternoon, Baltimore’s acting police commissioner, Col. Richard Worley said the ages of the victims range from 13 years old to 32 years old.

Worley said that all but nine of the victims have been released from the hospital. Three of the injured are in critical condition.

“We do know more than one person was shooting,” Worley said, according to WBAL.

No suspect or suspects are in custody. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

Mayor offers support after shooting

Update 10:37 a.m. EDT July 2: Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott released a statement with the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement and Baltimore Police Department following the shooting Sunday.

“My heart is with those who lost their lives, all those who are now battling injuries, and their loved ones. This community should also know that they have our wholehearted support during this unimaginably difficult time. This act of violence has shaken our city to the very core, and we are all grappling with the shock, pain, and trauma that accompanies such a heinous act of destruction,” Scott said.

“In the coming days, our community will undoubtedly be faced with grief, questions, and the need for answers. I assure you that the Baltimore Police Department, MONSE, and every other city agency is working diligently to investigate, engage residents, and keep everyone informed of additional pertinent information when it becomes available,” the mayor said.

Original story: The Baltimore Police Department in a news release said that early Sunday just after 12:30 a.m., officers received multiple calls about a shooting near the 800 block of Gretna Court. Once officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple victims.

Police say there were a total of 30 shooting victims, according to their preliminary investigation.

An 18-year-old woman was found deceased at the scene, according to The New York Times.

Multiple other people were shot, Baltimore’s acting police commissioner, Col. Richard Worley, said at a news conference on Sunday morning, according to the Times. At least three were in critical condition. Nine were transported to the hospital and 20 others took themselves to the hospital.

Police say a 20-year-old man died at a hospital.

Worley said that the shooting happened at a block party, The Associated Press reported.

“This morning, all of Baltimore is grieving,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, said at the news conference, calling the shooting a “reckless, cowardly act,” according to the Times.

Information about a suspect has not yet been released but Worley said that investigators are reviewing video and speaking with witnesses to try to identify the suspect, according to WBAL.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
