GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Ten employees at a Florida restaurant are each $1,000 richer after an anonymous customer’s generous tip.
According to WCJB, the man left the whopping $10,000 tip to be split among the 10 employees who worked while he, his wife and child dined at Wahoo Seafood Grill in Gainesville on Aug. 17.
“Everybody was super grateful and, I think, just kind of taken aback by it, someone recognizing their hand work,” employee Zack Connelly, who was working that night, told the TV station.
Bryce Daniels, a cook at Wahoo, told The Gainesville Sun that the man gathered all 10 employees on the clock to thank them for their hard work and then tipped $10,000 on the family’s $144 bill.
Daniels, 26, told the newspaper that the man was rugged, heavy-set and muscular, while his wife was “pristine,” and their son was shy.
Wahoo owner Shawn Shepherd told the Sun that he was “blown away” when the restaurant’s point-of-sale system approved the transaction.
“Watching these guys get their check was almost as good as Christmas morning,” Shepherd told the newspaper, noting that all the employees who benefited from the mystery donor’s largesse were “loyal employees” who stuck with the business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
