DETROIT — A man in Detroit, Michigan, has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his neighbor last Thursday, officials say.
According to a news release from the Detroit Police Department, Michael Lackey, 59, has been charged with shooting and killing his 61-year-old neighbor.
According to WJBK, the victim was identified as Michele Elder, 61.
According to WDIV, Elder was found by officers lying facedown in the street of her house with a gunshot wound to her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lackey then barricaded himself in his house, according to WDIV. He surrendered and was taken into custody after a brief standoff.
According to WJBK, police said that it was an argument over a package around Christmas over a year ago that possibly led to the deadly shooting last Thursday. A package was reportedly delivered to his neighbor and Lackey allegedly wanted to get it back. When he didn’t manage to get it back, a conflict between the two began.
DPD said Lackey has been charged with a count of premeditated first-degree murder, a count of witness retaliating against, and two counts of felony firearm. Lackey is scheduled for a probable cause conference on Nov. 28.
No further information has been released.
