The San Antonio Police Department said they received a call about a stolen vehicle from the owners of the truck who said he had found the vehicle at a shopping center thanks to the tracking device, KSAT reported.

But before police arrived, officers said one of the truck’s owners tried to confront the alleged thief, CBS News reported.

Police are not sure what happened next, but one family member told police that the person who allegedly took the truck may have pulled a gun and the truck’s owner shot and killed the other man, KSAT reported.

Police said they have not determined if the dead man had a weapon, CBS News reported.

Police said the only person who fired a shot was the truck’s owner and it is not clear if he will face charges.

Officials remind people that they should wait for authorities instead of acting alone.

“If you are to get your vehicle stolen, I know it’s frustrating, but please do not take matters in your own hands like this,” San Antonio Police Department spokesperson, Nick Soliz said, according to CBS News.
