Death of man found hanging from tree in LA neighborhood ruled suicide, police say

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles authorities launched a death investigation after a man was found hanging from a tree early Thursday in a neighborhood in the southern part of the city, multiple media outlets reported.

Update 4:30 p.m. ET April 1: The Los Angeles Police Department has ruled the unidentified 55-year-old Latino man’s death a suicide following a preliminary investigation, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“There was no foul play,” LAPD Officer William Cooper, a spokesperson for the department, told the newspaper.

A full examination that could take several weeks to complete will be conducted by the coroner, but the county’s Medical Examiner-Coroner Department determined the death was a suicide, Cooper said.

Original report: The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to KCAL that the discovery was made at around 4:20 a.m. in the Exposition Park neighborhood.

The victim’s identity has not been released, and authorities have not yet determined if the death is a homicide or suicide, the TV station reported.

A news photographer at the scene told KABC that the man was found hanging with his hands bound in front, but police have not confirmed the report.
