A man competing in the RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon collapsed and died after crossing the finish line Saturday, officials said.
The 30-year-old man, who has not been identified, collapsed as he finished the 13.1-mile race through the streets of Brooklyn in New York City, WABC-TV reported.
According to a spokesperson for the New York Road Runners, the man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, WPIX-TV reported.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the runner’s family and those close to them,” spokesperson Trina Singian told WABC.
It was unclear what caused the runner to collapse, the television station reported. He collapsed shortly after 9 a.m. EDT on Ocean Parkway at Brighton Beach Avenue near Coney Island, The New York Times reported.
The runner, a 30-year-old man, collapsed shortly before 9 a.m. on Ocean Parkway at Brighton Beach Avenue, just after he had crossed the finish line for the race, according to race officials and a New York Police Department spokeswoman. The man was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the police said.
Saturday’s death was the first in the event in eight years, WNBC-TV reported. In 2014, a 31-year-old runner died near the end of the race after collapsing, according to the television station.
Singian told The Associated Press that medical staff members were located “from start to finish” at various points of the race course on Saturday.
Temperatures during the race, which began at 7 a.m. EDT, ranged from the low 60s to the high 70s, Singian told the AP.
Temperatures rose past 80 degrees in Brooklyn by 12 p.m.
