Last call of 2020 was literal ‘dumpster fire’ for Florida firefighters

VIERA, Fla. — A Florida fire department found its firefighters battling a fitting final blaze for 2020 — a literal dumpster fire.

The term “dumpster fire” has become a common description for the year in which people around the globe saw innumerable deaths, illnesses and job losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On New Year’s Day, Brevard County Fire Rescue officials posted photos of the minor fire on social media.

“The last fire of the year for BCFR and Station 48 kind of sums up 2020,” the post read. “Wishing for a better and prosperous 2021 for Brevard County!”

The post included the hashtags #DumpsterFire and #Goodbye2020.

Facebook and Twitter users found the post deliciously funny. One Twitter user responded to the post by tweeting a closeup of the rather exhausted expression on one firefighter’s face.

“This guy is pretty much all of us,” he tweeted. “Love this.”

“Oh, the irony,” one woman wrote on Facebook.

“You could not have written a better ending,” a man commented. “Be safe!”

According to statistics, the dumpster fire was the last of 90,589 calls processed by the department throughout the year.
