ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An upstate New York firefighter is credited with saving a life while he was on vacation at Walt Disney World with his family.
Paul Bucher was with his family having dinner at a Walt Disney World Resort Restaurant Monday night, when he saw a man go into cardiac arrest, WTEN reported. Bucher immediately rushed to the man and determined he was not breathing and had no pulse.
Bucher, who works as a firefighter in Poughkeepsie, did a precordial thump and began doing chest compressions as others called 911, News 12 Brooklyn reported.
By the time an automated external defibrillator arrived, the patient’s pulse was restored, he was breathing on his own and his eyes were open, WTEN reported.
In a post on Facebook, the Poughkeepsie Fire Department said that as Reedy Creek Fire Rescue paramedics took the patient away, they said to Bucher: “You Poughkeepsie firefighters are always ready to answer the call. Great work, Pauly!”
