It’s not a baby shark -- more like a mama great white shark -- that’s been tracked to the northwest shores of Florida.
Unama’ki has been pinged about 100 miles from the Florida coast, Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
Unama’ki was tagged by OCEARCH, a research nonprofit, in fall 2019 in the waters off Nova Scotia along with 10 other sharks.
The 15-foot, 5-inch shark, which weighs 2,076 pounds, was one of the largest sharks tagged. Since her tagging, she has made a trip of more than 2,000 miles, the news outlet reported.
If and when Unama’ki has baby sharks, or pups, researchers hope she shows them the location of a great white shark nursery.
Three other sharks tagged with Unama’ki are also swimming around the Gulf of Mexico or in the Florida Keys area.
Unama’ki had quite a trip, she had been pinged in October off the coast of North Carolina near the Outer Banks, WVEC reported at the time.
