KENNESAW, Ga. — A professional golfer who was shot and killed at a country club in Georgia had witnessed a “crime in progress,” likely leading to his death, according to police and WSB-TV.
Authorities found Siller dead Saturday at the 10th hole of the golf course at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to his head, WSB reported.
The incident happened after a white pickup truck drove onto the golf course around 2 p.m. on Saturday. The driver of the truck had two dead bodies in the bed of the vehicle, according to WSB. One of the deceased was identified as Paul Pierson, the owner of the truck, while the other man was not immediately identified.

“Detectives have learned that Mr. Siller happened upon a crime in progress involving the unknown suspect and the two deceased males who were found in the pickup truck,” authorities told WSB on Tuesday. “It does not appear Siller was in any way targeted, but rather (he) was killed because he witnessed an active crime taking place.”
Although the gunman remained at large Tuesday, police said they’ve found nothing to indicate that the public at large is in danger. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.
Officials said Siller was working as director of golf at Pinetree Country Club. In a joint statement published Sunday, officials with the Georgia State Golf Association and the Georgia chapters of the Club Management Association of America, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the PGA of America asked people to keep the 41-year-old’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
A GoFundMe campaign launched to support Siller’s family had garnered nearly $500,000 from 3,400 donors by Tuesday afternoon.
