TAMPA, Fla. — A 7-year-old girl was injured after falling about 40 feet from a gondola ride on Saturday at the Florida State Fair, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, three children, all under the age of 10, were riding the gondola across the fairgrounds at about 8:40 p.m. EST when the 7-year-old slipped under the safety bar, WFLA-TV reported.
Deputies said the child fell “about 35-40 feet” into a grassy area.
Deputies and fire rescue paramedics responded to the scene and took the girl to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, WTVT-TV reported. The sheriff’s office said in its release that the girl suffered a possible broken wrist.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office determined that the fall was an accident.
The ride was shut down but was reopened by Sunday, WFLA reported.
