Courtney Sophia Crichton, 33, of Key Largo, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and criminal mischief for intentionally breaking a $200 hobble restraint device, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Adam Linhardt, deputies were called to an area on the Overseas Highway and found Crichton and a 39-year-old man yelling at each other, WPLG-TV reported.

Linhardt said Crichton and the man ran into nearby woods but were quickly retained, the television station reported.

The man followed deputies commands, but according to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Crichton “refused commands, was physically and verbally combative (and) pulled away from deputies numerous times.”

The sheriff’s office added that Crichton bit the hand of Deputy Casey Matthews while he was attempting to put her in handcuffs. Crichton also spit in the deputy’s eye, the news release stated.

Matthews was taken to an area hospital and treated, the sheriff’s office said.

Crichton was booked into the Monroe County Jail. Bail was set at $30,000, online records show.
