CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of using a rental car that was delinquent for nearly a year so he could use it in his capacity as a DoorDash delivery driver, authorities said.
Olatunji Adegboyegao Okuboye, 40, of Clearwater, was arrested on Thursday and charged with grand theft, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
An officer with the Clearwater Police Department stopped Okuboye on Thursday morning while driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra sedan, WFLA-TV reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, the vehicle had been reported stolen from an Avis Rent-A-Car office in nearby Hillsborough County on Tuesday after Okuboye allegedly rented the vehicle and failed to return it after the rental agreement expired on March 2, 2022.
The arrest affidavit stated that Okuboye told the officer that he was using the vehicle to deliver food via DoorDash and intended to return it in March.
Okuboye was arrested and charged with grand theft, WFLA reported. He posted $5,000 bail on Friday, online booking records show.
