VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities arrested a Debary man Friday after he was accused of fighting with his neighbor over a Joe Biden campaign sign, according to Volusia County sheriff’s deputies and news reports.
A man told deputies that he confronted his neighbor, 55-year-old Anthony Vullo, after hearing that Vullo had taken a Joe Biden yard sign from his yard and thrown it across his lawn, Fox News reported. Vullo told deputies that “he was upset that his (neighbor) … had deliberately placed a political sign in front of his to block (its) view from the road.”
Authorities said Vullo admitted to having “tossed” his neighbor’s sign. The neighbor told deputies that when he confronted Vullo about the incident, the 55-year-old said, “It was rude of him to place a political yard sign in front of his own,” and pushed him. The neighbor said he pushed Vullo back.
“(The neighbor) stated that after pushing Vullo away from him, Vullo punched the left side of (his) face,” deputies said in a charging affidavit filed in court.
Another witness corroborated the neighbor’s report, though deputies said Vullo claimed his neighbor tried and failed to punch him before Vullo took a swing at him. Deputies said the neighbor had “obvious signs of injury over his left eye.” He declined to seek medical attention.
Authorities arrested Vullo on one count of first-degree battery, a misdemeanor. Court records show he’s scheduled to appear in court remotely for an arraignment on Sept. 14.
