CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of striking a woman with a mallet, authorities said.

Sean Michael Raynes, 36, of Cape Coral, was arrested on Feb. 2 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, and contempt of court for violating the no-contact order. kidnapping and false imprisonment, obstruction of justice and petit theft, according to Lee County online booking records.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Cape Coral police officer responded to a call for a possible battery at a residence at about 6:15 p.m. EST on Feb. 2. Getting no response, the officer left but returned an hour later after a police dispatcher received a 911 call.

After receiving no answer again, police decided to remain at the residence, WBBH-TV reported.

At 8:15 p.m., the garage door to the residence opened and the officer observed a woman leaving, according to the arrest affidavit. The woman told police that Raynes had allegedly hit her in the head with a mallet after an argument on Jan. 31, causing her to bleed. She added that Haynes allegedly told her, “you better stop bleeding because I’m not taking you to the hospital,” the affidavit stated.

According to the affidavit, the victim said that Raynes woke up on the morning of Feb. 2 and allegedly told her, “We are going to have a bad day” and struck her several times in the arm and left torso with a closed fist.

Haynes, who stepped out of a black Kia parked in the garage on Feb. 2, refused to answer questions, WBBH reported. Based on the victim’s statements and after learning that Haynes had violated an active protection order, he was arrested, according to the television station.

Haynes remains in the Lee County Jail, online records show. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20.
