MONROE COUNTY, Fla. — The lowest southern portion of the continental United States -- the Florida Keys -- will be closing Sunday amid fears of the new coronavirus.
The chain of islands, connected by a single highway and a series of bridges, will take the unprecedented move to close to tourists for two weeks, WWSB reported.
The order will be reevaluated after that time.
Hotels, short-term and vacation rentals were asked to stop taking reservations; visitors must leave by 6 p.m. Sunday. The exception is for long-term renters with contracts of 28 days or more, WWSB reported.
There are no confirmed cases in Monroe County, which includes the Keys.
