HOUSTON — A father accidentally shot his 9-year-old son in the chest Friday during a road rage incident, investigators said.
Houston police said the boy was in a car with his father around 11 p.m. when they thought they were being followed, KTRK reported.
Concerned he was being followed, the father pulled out a gun. He got home without incident and as he attempted to holster the weapon, it discharged, striking the boy in the chest, investigators said.
The father took his son to a nearby fire station. Once there, medics took the boy to a hospital where he is currently in critical condition. He is expected to survive.
Police said the father, who is cooperating with investigators, will not face charges because it was an accident.
