The postponement was announced on the American Airlines Center website hours before John was set to take the stage as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

“Fortunately, Elton is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is experiencing only mild symptoms,” the announcement read. “Fans should hold on to their tickets as they will be honored at the rescheduled dates to be announced soon.”

John was set to perform Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the American Airlines Center. It was not immediately clear when the show would go on.

“Elton and the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour look forward to returning to the stage shortly,” officials said.

John kicked off the North American dates of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour last week in New Orleans. He performed in Houston on Friday and Saturday and is scheduled to perform at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on Saturday.

Public health officials have urged people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, noting that while the available vaccines do not entirely mitigate the risk of developing the viral infection, they protect well against severe illness caused by the virus.

Officials have confirmed more than 71.7 million COVID-19 infections and reported over 869,000 deaths nationwide, according to numbers compiled by Johns Hopkins University. More than 356.3 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, resulting in 5.6 million deaths, according to the university.
