The 77-year-old driver was pulled to safety after his vehicle crashed through a gate and flipped onto its side Tuesday in the Wave Car Wash in Colmar, WPVI reported.

Hatfield Township Fire Marshal Mikele Waldron said via email that the driver lost control outside of the car wash and crashed into it, where the car rolled onto its side after hitting equipment.

“I can’t even imagine the process of having a car turn over inside a car wash,” Bill Ashmead, a witness, told WPVI. “I don’t think it’s ever happened before.”

Rescuers worked for approximately 90 minutes to free the driver, WPVI reported. Rescuers had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free the victim.

Waldron said that the driver’s leg was pinned between the car’s body and door. The door of the vehicle had been open when the accident happened.

Video obtained by WPVI shows the moment the crash happened.

The business was forced to close because of the damage. On Thursday, Wave Car Wash posted a photo to Facebook showing workers repairing equipment. The caption said, “Working towards getting open!”

“We are relieved that nobody was seriously injured,” Car wash owner Darin Kapanjie said in a statement to WPVI. “This was a severe accident that is extremely unfortunate for our customers, and our equipment. … We’ll get through it together and end up on top. Again, we’re just so happy nobody was seriously injured.”

Waldron said the driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition with injuries to his left leg.
