JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — A driver died Sunday when his car was split in two after hitting a tree due to “excessive speeds,” investigators said.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash around 3 a.m. along Shawnee Mission Parkway near 55th Street in Fairway, Kansas, WDAF reported.
“Due to excessive speeds, the vehicle appears to have hit a tree on the side of the road and split in half,” the agency said on social media.
Authorities later identified the driver as David Lawrence Hutchinson, 28. He was killed by the impact, investigators said.
