The White House released a memorandum from President Donald Trump’s physician on Saturday, noting that the president is “no longer considered a transmission risk to others.”
“In addition to the president meeting CDC criteria for the safe discontinuation of isolation, this morning’s COVID PCR sample demonstrates, by currently recognized standards, he is no longer considered a transmission risk,” Dr. Sean P. Conley wrote in the memo, which was addressed to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.
Conley’s memo was good news for Trump, who made his first public appearance Saturday at the White House since his release from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center because of coronavirus infection.
Trump walked out on the balcony of the Blue Room at the White House wearing a mask. The president then took off the mask to speak.
“I’m feeling great,” Trump told the crowd of supporters on the South Lawn.
Trump will begin campaigning in earnest in the coming week, traveling to key swing states Florida, Pennsylvania and Iowa.
Just 10 days after his release from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Trump is expected to speak at 7 p.m. Monday at an outdoor rally at Sanford International Airport in Florida, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
On Tuesday, the campaign has a tentatively scheduled event at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, according to the Tribune Democrat.
Trump plans to speak Wednesday at the Des Moines International Airport, KIMT reported.
The Trump campaign has already shifted gears, releasing an advertisement that compared the president’s recovery from COVID-19 to the nation’s economic recovery, The Washington Post reported.
“President Trump is recovering from the coronavirus, and so is America,” the narrator for the ad says. “Together, we rose to meet the challenge, protecting our seniors, getting them lifesaving drugs in record time, sparing no expense. President Trump tackled the virus head-on, as leaders should.”
The ad then cuts to a clip of Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious-disease doctor, from an interview he did in March, the Post reported.
The clip references the White House’s response at the time, with Fauci saying, "I can’t imagine that anybody could be doing more.”
