“He was rehearsing for a show to do in Los Angeles with a full band,” Nash said on an episode of the podcast Kyle Meredith With... . “After three days of rehearsals, he felt a little sick. And he’d already had COVID, and he had COVID again. And so, he went home and decided that he would take a nap, and he never woke up. But he died in his bed, and that is fantastic.”

Nash said no one suspected Crosby was close to death when he died on Jan. 18.

While Crosby and the other members of the band Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, were estranged, Nash said he was pleased that he and Crosby were growing closer in recent years.

“He had a good life. What incredible music he made. He was a fantastic storyteller,” said Nash. “I loved him dearly, and looking back, what separated us ... it was just foolish stuff, really.”

Crosby became angry at Nash following the release of Nash’s 2013 memoir “Wild Tales.” He called the book “whiny and dishonest,” and a public feud between the friends and bandmates ensued.

Crosby underwent a liver transplant in 1994 after decades of drug use and survived diabetes, hepatitis C and heart surgery in his 70s.
