Corrales-Camargo signed with the Cubs organization in 2014. He spent the 2019 season with Myrtle Beach in the Carolina League and played for Obregon in the Mexican Pacific Winter League during 2020-2021.
The Cubs assigned the right-hander to the South Bend Cubs in February, KUSA reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputy Evan Jaramillo on Wednesday stopped a silver BMW driven by Camargo-Corrales on Interstate 70 near Vail, the Daily reported. The deputy said the vehicle appeared to be speeding and drifting into another lane, the newspaper reported.
Deputies said they found a Chicago Cubs duffel bag that belonged to Camargo-Corrales in the car, KUSA reported. Inside the bag were several baseball gloves, cleats, several bags of a white substance, two green packages and a bag that was suspected of being doused with essential oils that had $1,000 cash in it, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Camargo-Corrales agreed to be interviewed and claimed a friend in his hometown of Sinaloa, Mexico, offered him $500 to deliver the duffel bag to Denver, the Tribune reported. Camargo-Corrales told deputies he believed the bag contained shoes or clothing but also indicated he knew there were drugs inside, according to the arrest affidavit.
Camargo-Corrales is scheduled to appear again in court on March 30, the Daily reported.
